The Texas Engineering Extension Service and Technical
Diagnostic Services, Inc. are pleased to offer the
latest safety and health and OSHA courses at locations
throughout the nation through open enrollment and
contract courses. These courses can be applied toward
the industry-recognized Certified Safety & Health
Official (CSHO) certificate and an Associate of Applied
Science Degree in Occupational Safety from San Juan

Occupational Safety & Health Standards
for the Construction Industry
This course covers OSHA policies, procedures, and
standards as well as construction safety and health
principles. Topics include scope and application of
the OSHA construction standards. Special emphasis
is placed on those areas that are most hazardous.
The students will examine 29 CFR 1926 in great detail.
This is an entry-level course that provides basic
safety and health knowledge for the
construction industry. upon successful course completion,
the student will receive an OSHA construction industry
safety and health 30-hour course completion card.

Scaffold Safety
This four-day course provides excellent understanding
and application of OSHA Standards 1926.450-454. Participants
will become familiar with letters of interpretation
and learn how to analyze
letters of interpretation. Comprehensive content is
included to provide broad awareness of unique inspection
requirements and covers identifying and minimizing
hazards associated with scaffolds.

Excavation, Trenching & Soil Mechanics
This course focuses on OSHA standards and the safety

Hazardous Materials
This course covers OSHA general industrystandards
and integrates materials from other consensus and
proprietary standards that relate to hazardous materials.
Included are flammable and combustible liquids, compressed
gases, LP gases, and cryogenic liquids. Preparing
an emergency plan and hazardous waste cleanup are
also discussed.

Medic First Aid & CPR Trainer
This course will qualify attendees to train both
instructors and students in Medic First Aid/CPR, Automated
External Defibrillators (AED), Bloodborne Pathogens
and Infant Child skills. Attendees will learn skills
as well as practice teaching. Information will be
provided during the course to help the student obtain
the Core Training Programs (DvD or vHS) from Medic
First Aid.

Introduction to Accident Investigation
Introduction to Accident Investigation provides an
introduction to basic accident investigation procedures
and describes accident analysis techniques. The goal
of this course is to help participants gain the basic
skills necessary to conduct an effective accident
investigation in their workplace. The target audience
is the small employer, manager, employer or employee
representative who, as a part of a firm’s safety and
health system, would be involved in conducting accident
and/or near-miss investigations. Topics include the
primary reasons for conducting an accident investigation,
employer responsibilities related to workplace accident
investigations, and a six-step accident investigation
procedure. The course is set up as a facilitated,
interactive training session focusing on class discussions
and group activities.

Permit-Required Confined Space Entry
This course is designed to increase the student’s
knowledge of hazards associated with permit-required
confined space entry. This course discusses the use
and limitations of explosion meters, oxygen meters,
and other test equipment. Includes the operation and
calibration of gas monitoring equipment. Course also
includes entry labs.
