Occupational Safety & Health Standards for the Oil & Gas Industry

This course presents occupational safety and health standards that apply to the oil and gas industry, with an emphasis on drilling and well servicing activities. Standards addressed in this class come primarily from 29 CFR 1910, the OSHA general industry regulations, along with selected OSHA construction regulations from 29 CFR 1926. The course is based heavily on the OSHA 511 general industry standards course and is designed to fulfill the training prerequisite for the OSHA 501 general industry trainer course. Upon the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to identify the most common hazards associated with oil and gas exploration and production activities, locate applicable OSHA standards and requirements, and recommend abatement methods for these hazards and violations of these standards.

OSHA Guideline to Industrial Hygiene

Process Safety Management (PSM) Survival

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Instructor Development Course

This course is designed to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and techniques to develop and provide site-specific, technical skill level Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) training programs to the petroleum industry, utilities, research and development, laboratories, transportation, paper/ pulp/food processing, chemical manufacturing, and other companies with H2S at their facilities. Participants will receive and discuss the ANSI/ ASSE Z390.1-2006 standard, “Accepted Practices for Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Training Programs.” At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to explain the hazards associated with H2S, describe how the federal and state H2S regulatory standards and other established industry criteria link together to reduce the potential of exposure and risks involved with H2S, and develop an effective training program for their specific sites.

Hazardous Materials

Environmental Regulation for Oil & Gas Exploration & Production

Introduction to Accident Investigation

Introduction to Accident Investigation provides an introduction to basic accident investigation procedures and describes accident analysis techniques. The goal of this course is to help participants gain the basic skills necessary to conduct an effective accident investigation in their workplace. The target audience is the small employer, manager, employer or employee representative who, as a part of a firm’s safety and health system, would be involved in conducting accident and/or near-miss investigations. Topics include the primary reasons for conducting an accident investigation, employer responsibilities related to workplace accident investigations, and a six-step accident investigation procedure. Trainer Course in Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry

This course is designed for personnel in the private sector interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour general industry safety and health outreach program to their employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as on those that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Course participants are briefed on effective instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts. This course covers the skills needed to plan and deliver effective presentations. Participants will learn practical and innovative techniques to deliver interactive regulatory training sessions. Throughout the course, participants work in small groups to apply the techniques learned through mini presentations, while receiving structured feedback from peers and their instructor. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the Outreach Program and to conduct both a 10- and 30-hour general industry safety and health course and to issue cards to participants verifying course completion. NOTE: Students in Course #501 who wish to participate as authorized trainers in the Outreach Program must successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course. Outreach trainers are required to attend Course #503 at least once every four years to maintain their trainer status.

Prerequisites
Student must verify the following prior to registering for the course:
• Five years of general industry safety experience (Three years if a student has a CSP or safety and health degree)
• Completion of OSHA 511 Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry

* Laptop computer is highly recommended, but not required for this course.
